普通灯管和eefl灯管（外部电极荧光灯）相比较，eefl灯管可以节省50%～70%的电量。

普通灯管的金属电极设在玻璃内部，eefl灯管是在玻璃管外部涂上电极物质形成电极，通过外部电极供给能源，比电极在内部的荧光灯消耗量低，而且没有因金属电极和玻璃管的接触，就没有了由于接触所引发的灯管黑化等老化问题，所以eefl灯管也就比其它灯管寿命更长，平均使用寿命可达到60000小时以上。
