浮动螺母是应用于薄板或钣金上的一种组合螺母，外形呈圆形,里面镶嵌一个螺母，组合后能浮动。外壳一端带有压花齿及导向槽。其原理是通过压花齿压入钣金的预置孔也,一般而方预置孔的孔径略小于压铆螺母的压花齿，通过压力使浮动螺母的花齿挤入板内使导致孔的的周边产生塑性变形，变形物被挤入导向槽，从而产生锁紧的效果。安装方法同压铆螺母。但生产工艺比较复杂，需要自动车床先分别加工两个元件，然后铣床铣出四边，最后用小冲床进行组合。
浮动螺母从材质上分为快削钢as las型，不锈钢ac lac型;从螺母是否自锁上分为自锁螺母lac、las型和非自锁螺母ac 、as型。分别应于不同的使用环环境。规格从通常是从m3至m6。
浮动螺母没有统一的国家标准，最早的浮动螺母来自美国的生产商pem，后国内引进后逐步形成现在的行业标准,被机箱机柜、钣金业被接受。
