1、戴手表时，手上的汗水对表壳有腐蚀性。
全钢表壳由于是镍铬合金，抗腐蚀性能好些，半钢表壳是铜的，长期与汗水接触，容易腐蚀，应经常用软布抹去汗水或垫上塑料表托，以防止其被汗水侵蚀。
2、不要随意打开表后盖，以免尘埃进入机芯影响手表的正常工作。（开过盖的表易出现问题，诸如防水性下降等，所以能不开盖尽量不开）
3、不要将手表放在有樟脑丸的衣柜内，以免表油变质。
4、不要将手表放在功放、音响、电视机上，以免磁化。（以一块老旧+31s/d五号盾牌精工放在音响附近，十天后竟然变慢了，消磁后又基本恢复原状）
5、长期存放不戴的手表，应每月定期上发条一次。
自动机芯的手表则应轻轻来回摆动几分钟或戴在手腕上一段时间使其自动上紧发条。使零件不致长期处于静止状态，以保证表机的运转性能。（此法可保持机芯内润滑剂的流动性。
6、普通机械手表受了潮，可用干棉花压在手表上，再用40瓦的电灯泡烘烤5分钟，表里的潮气就可全部被蒸发出来。
